School Construction Update 7/8/19
Posted 7/8/19

Dear Jamestown Families & Community-

I would like to update you on the School Construction Projects for this summer.

As of today, July 8th we will begin replacements of the Melrose School roof and the Lawn School roof. Along with the roof replacements we will be upgrading the rooftop HVAC systems. The following additional construction projects will be occurring simultaneously.

  • Replacement of the diesel fuel tank at Lawn & upgrades to the heating oil tanks at both schools
  • Upgrades to the classroom doors at Melrose School which will consist of maintenance and replacement of fire-rated doors and the installation of a magnetic door holder & releasing device that will be integrated with our Fire Alarm and Active Threat System.
  • Upgrades to the Fire/Life system in the Science Room at Lawn;
  • Upgrades to the HVAC system in the Band Room at Lawn;
  • Replacement of the kitchen hood for the stove in the Melrose kitchen.

These projects will ensure that our students, staff, and community will have safe, comfortable schools for many years to come. The Jamestown School Department has been coordinating all work with our contractors to minimize disruption to the community during the summer months. The Roofing Projects will be substantially completed by August 15 with final completion of all work by August 28.

    If you plan on visiting the schools during the summer please be aware of the safety procedures in place. The parking lots will have restricted access, please pay attention to the signage. Only the main entrance at each building will be used as access points. As a safety precaution, we will be restricting access to the walking path between the schools during construction.

    We will have our Extended School Year program operating out of the Melrose School on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from July 9th through August 8th. If children are walking to Melrose School for the Extended School Year program they must use the path on Melrose Avenue. All projects are following a timeline that will minimize any disruptions to our students attending the Extended School Year program.

     If you have any questions about the summer construction projects please feel free to contact me. I will be updating you regularly on our progress and timeline.

Thank you for your continued support.

Superintendent of Schools
